Habib Koité fait partie des voix les plus influentes de l'Afrique contemporaine. Eric Bibb est considéré comme l'un des tous premiers représentants de la culture afro-américaine dans le domaine du blues et de la folk music. Ils se sont découverts mutuellement il y a dix ans à l'occasion de l'album ''Mali to Memphi'' (paru sur Putumayo) qui rappelait l'importance de l'ancestralité africaine dans le blues. Ils se sont retrouvé pour ''Brothers in Bamako'', enregistré juste avant le début des évènements qui déchirent actuellement le Mali.
