Albert King est l'un des rares bluesmen qui a su s'imposer dans les hit-parades de musique noire. Enregistré entre mars 66 et juin 67 dans les studios de Stax Records ''Born under a bad sign'' est un best of à lui seul, avec sa rythmique funky, King n'a plus qu'à y poser son chant et sa guitare dans un jeu sobre, mais d'une efficacité incroyable. Albert King teinte son blues dune touche soul, grâce aux musiciens de Stax : Steve Cropper (guitare), Booker T.Jones (Piano), Isaac Hayes (Piano), Donald ‘Duc’ Dunn (Basse), Al Jackson Jr. (Batterie) et la section de cuivres de The Memphis Horn.
